Monda is setting up a new Foreigners’ Department
Following the successful public meeting on 8th June in the town hall at Monda, the Mayor has decided that foreign residents living in Monda will now be able to access information about the council’s departments and the services they offer through the help of a Foreigners Department.

FASHION FLING!
Sue Reeve gives us another insight into the world of Fashion...
There is a firmly held belief that leaving a shirt untucked somehow produces a slimmer outline. I would challenge this idea as a well-chosen shirt, neatly tucked and belted will always deliver a more considered and flattering appearance. For gentlemen, tapered shirts with darts forming a nipped-in waist, must be tucked into your trousers or shorts, and don‘t forget the belt. Left out, it looks as if you were surprised half-way through getting dressed. Although the tapered outline is a bit dated, seen mostly on footballers and estate agents, the taper has the advantage of sitting neatly inside a jacket so should not be completely despised. A short sleeved, straight-up-and-down shirt can be worn out, in fact looks better out, but make sure it’s not too long....

HEART AND SOUL SKA & REGGAE FESTIVAL
As the end of summer approaches a one-day Ska and Reggae Festival will be held on the outskirts of Coin to mark the occasion with a musical big band bang.
Headlined by the Costa del Sol’s Looney Toonz it will be supported by Absalut Pantz from Orgiva and Polish group Skadictator plus others.
The event will begin at 2pm on Saturday August 28th with stalls, bouncy castle, artisan and food, with music kicking off around 5pm until 2am. DJ’s will support the day in between live music sets with a mixture of Northern Soul, Ska and Reggae music.
It is being organised by a local group of music lovers in conjunction with local radio station Heartfm Spain and will be held in the huge function room at Venta Los Arcos on the Coin to Cartama A355 road.
The idea behind the event is to promote Ska and Reggae music in a bid to lure hugely popular South London based Ska band, The Dualers, over to Southern Spain next year.
The Dualers launched themselves unannounced into the UK singles chart in 2004 and landed at number 21 with their self-penned song Kiss on the Lips. As an unknown act they became the first street performers to achieve a chart position and have since had sell out concerts in the UK and their latest album The Cooking Pot was released at the end of last year.
Co-organiser Steve Rowles said: “This is all part of a campaign to show The Dualers we can host an event which will warrant them coming over as part of a possible mini-tour in this region next summer.
“As a stand alone festival this year however we have some great local and international bands supporting us and it should be great family day with some fantastic music for all ages.”
Ska music is a genre of Jamaican music which became popular in the early 1960s. Looney Toonz is well known for gigs along the coast especially at Pogs Irish Bar in Fuengirola whilst Absalut Pantz is a funky/ska band which feature both originals and covers.
Meanwhile Flavours of Jamaica will be providing traditional food whilst Los Arcos will also be hosting their BBQ platters. Tickets are €5 in advance or €7.50 on the door (children under 12 free) and proceeds will go to charity Have a Heart which works with needy people within the Heartfm 95.7 broadcast area.
Tickets are available from: Pogs Irish Bar, Funky Cutz Hair Salon (behind Leslies), Heartfm studios (Alhaurin el Grande) or Los Arcos. For any information, to book a stall or ticket details email heartandska@hotmail.com or contact heartfm Spain

Shrek IV - The Final Chapter was shown in English and Spanish at the same time, using the same film!
The soundtrack that is already imprinted within the film is Spanish, as the distributors
have supplied the cinema with a normal Spanish version of the film. The English
soundtrack is supplied on a disk and is played in sync with the film through a separate
sound player.
To show the film in English and Spanish at the same time, José, Gabi and Chema, the three technicians at the cinema at La Trocha thread the film from one of the big turning tables, into the projector of cinema number 5, where the soundtrack is played in English from the separate disk.
Once the film has passed through the projector number 5 it is threaded around pulleys in the walls and ceiling to the projector for screen number 4, where it is then threaded through the projector and sound equipment for the soundtrack in Spanish. Although the distance between the two projectors will mean a slight delay in the film between the two screens, they each have an independent sound system so the film will never be out of sync. Clever eh?
A VERY BIG thank you to the regular cinema-going couple that kindly gave a fridge to the man in Coin who is going blind and struggling with not being able to find work. In addition to providing him with the fridge, they also gave some money to help stock it for him. It has made a huge difference to him. Another couple also helped with groceries a few weeks ago and through the “Have A Heart” charity at Heart FM, he received some home grown veg, some basic supplies and there are still more things no the horizon.
I’m amazed at how much people are still able to do for each other even when times are hard for everyone. Thanks again.
